Will Rannells Portraits Available at the Humane Society

Will Rannells, nationally known Columbus (OH) artist, was listed in Who's Who in America for more than 50 years. Early in his career, he became noted for his portraits of dogs. As early as 1917, his canine portraits began appearing on the cover of many famed national magazines, and for years, thereafter he illustrated covers for such magazines as Life, Gentleman Farmer, and others.

Rannells has done the illustrations for a number of children's books and was responsible for the famed dog portraits in the Buckeye Union calendar for more than 40 years. He was a member of the Capital Area Humane Society for 60 years, and has had a deep and abiding interest in the care and humane treatment of animals all his life. At times, he has had as many as 12 or 13 adopted dogs in his home.

A personal friend of the artist donated these original Will Rannells dog sketches to the Knox County Humane Society. Any proceeds from this artwork will benefit the many programs in which the Knox County Humane Society is involved. All are original charcoal drawings for "Buckeye Union Dog Calendar" given out by the Buckeye Insurance Company and The Continental Insurance Company in Columbus, Ohio.

Airedale Terrier - In November 1985 calendar. Name of dog is "Rusty". Drawing is 12 in. X 9 in.
Chihuahua - In October 1988 calendar. Name of dog is "Tinker" Drawing is 12 in. X 9 in.
Dalmatian - In September 1980 calendar. Name of dog is "Charger". Drawing is 12 in. X 9.5 in.
(Sold) Beagle - In May 1988 calendar. Name of dog is "Jasper". Drawing is 12 in. X 9 in.
